The12-0-12 1Amp Step-Down Transformer is a chassis mounting mains transformer. The transformer has a 230V primary winding and a secondary winding that is not center tapped. The transformer has insulated connecting leads with flying colors (Approx. 100 mm long ). The transformer functions as a step down transformer, converting 230V AC to 12V AC.

The transformer is a static electrical device that transfers energy between its winding circuits via inductive coupling. A changing current in the primary winding causes a changing magnetic flux in the transformer's core and, as a result, a changing magnetic flux through the secondary winding. In the secondary winding, the varying magnetic flux induces a varying electromotive force (E.M.F.) or voltage. The cores of the transformer are made of high permeability silicon steel. The steel has many times the permeability of free space, and the core serves to greatly reduce the magnetizing current and confine the flux to a path that closely couples the winding.
